Dedicated C's Review
I’ve just read the second book in the After Series by Anna Todd. I don’t know yet how I feel about this book. Maybe while I’m typing this review out it will come to me. Hmmm….
Tessa Young. She such a strong person to go through what she went through with Hardin, emotionally, I don’t think I would have survived it and not many women I know would have put up with it. I think this book has more rollercoasters (emotionally speaking) than an amusement park. So many ups and downs, turns and loopty loops it was madness!
There is one constant emotion in this book; LOVE! And it’s told from both Hardin and Tessa’s point of view, and I absolutely loved that!
When a story is told from both the heroines and hero’s point of view I feel that you get a better understanding of how the character really feels and everything is just not one sided. Like you’re in their head. I think that when an author does that she has to become one with her characters. She actually feels what they’re feeling, she feels what they’re saying, feels the passion behind every word, and Anna Todd does that. The writing is phenomenal. In my opinion of course.
Anna Todd made me feel Hardin’s pain, his anger, his self-loathing and his hatred. I felt his love for Tessa, his feeling of abandonment from his father. And through it all he tries to make it right but makes it so much worse. I feel really for bad for Hardin. How could I not! I mean, a twenty year old guy that feels so much anger and hatred for everything and everyone and tries so hard to control it but can’t. I think on a personal level I can empathize with him.
Then we have Tessa. She is a very strong young woman, who loves Hardin with all of her being but is not sure if she can handle the ups and downs that come with being with Hardin. She’s so conflicted by her love for Hardin and the cruelty that comes with him that it’s just more than she can bare and because of this, he has BROKEN her. Causing her to make bad and rash decisions. I guess that’s what happens when your love for someone consumes you. And that’s what her love for Hardin’s does, it consumes her.
To say that I love this book as much as the first…. I wouldn’t go that far but I did enjoy it. I liked the multiple point of view aspect. I liked the vulnerability of Hardin that comes with that and I think I would have to say those were my favorite parts. I mean the steamy love scenes were HOT, but the vulnerability in this particular character was just amazing.
There’s not much that I didn’t like about the book. But I guess if I don’t name at least one thing about this book then the whole `I didn’t love it’ becomes a contradiction. So, I guess the one thing I disliked about this book was the arguing. There was so much of it. At one point I got irritated, put it down and did a load of laundry and if you want to know the one thing that I absolutely hate doing, it’s laundry. GAH!! Is there such a thing as a laundry fairy? Do you think Tinker Bell may know one? Hmmm….
Okay back to my review… Would I recommend this book to anyone and everyone? YEP!! You can’t start a series that you love in the beginning and just stop because the second one wasn’t as great as the first. So, I will continue to read this series because I’m SO curious to see what happens between Tessa and Hardin. And with that, I’m going to leave you because book number three needs to be read. Let’s hope it doesn't irritate me to the point that I do laundry!
