After #1 by Anna Todd
Dedicated C's Review
What can I say about this book? Did I like it? Did I love it? That I hated it? In answer my own question: All of the above. I know it’s a contradiction but that’s just the way Anna Todd made me feel with this book. Theresa Young - Tessa as she likes to be called by her friends, is a pretty, intelligent, and laid back girl. She’s very routine, never uses foul language, straight A student that loves her boyfriend and has her life planned out from marriage, to kids and her career. She so certain of her path, as we all think we are. HA! Life never turns out the way we wanted it to or the way we PLANNED on it too anyway and for Tessa that lesson was learned at college when she met him! Hardin Scott, what can I say about him? He’s a smart, egotistical, and tries to be this hard ass to impress his grungy friends. Oh please! What a turn off. I wanted to hate Hardin, but I couldn't. I felt sorry for him. He’s broken, angry and confused. I saw that he could be happy if given the chance. If only he could hear people out and not try to break them as much as he’s broken. Despite the secrets and lies that Hardin keeps, I think he really did fall for Tessa, genuinely. But the way it started is wrong and some would say unforgivable. What I loved about After is that Anna Todd made me feel so much for these characters. Love, hate, angst, and sympathy. Sometimes I felt it all at once. She wrote a story - in my opinion, of course - that could happen in real life. Another thing I loved about it was the way both characters bring out emotions in each other that they didn't think they had. They both bring out the best and worst of each other and they bring their real selves out when around each other. He brings out a person in her that she never thought she could be and in the same vein she does that for him and its raw - in a heartbreaking sort of way. I liked that it was raw, but what I didn't like - hated actually - was how their love for each came about. The way it happens is cruel, callous, and heartless and left them both utterly broken. Now, having said all that I AM definitely going to read the next book in the series. I hated this book so much by the end, that I absolutely LOVED IT!! And I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book to anyone and everyone. |
